Desktop Gallery is a utility designed specifically to work with MacOS 8ユs desktop pictures feature, turning it into continuous, background slideshow. Simply point Desktop Gallery to a folder of JPEG and/or PICT files, set the time interval to wait between changes, and then enjoy the show while you use your Mac.
Features
Here are a few of the features waiting for you in Desktop Gallery:
・ Drag and drop picture folder selection
・ Background operation
・ Random or sequential picture selection
・ Supports multiple monitors
・ Special selection method for multiple monitors
・ Balloon help
・ Audible signal at start of change cycle (or not...)
System Requirements
Desktop Gallery requires the following to run:
・ MacOS 8 or later
・ AppleScript 1.1.2 or later
・ Desktop Pictures control panel 1.0 or later
・ 1.5 megabytes of available disk space
Whatユs New in Version 1.1?
Desktop Gallery 1.1 contains a number of new enhancements based on user feedback and suggestions. These enhancements include:
・ A redesigned user interface that better supports MacOS 8ユs Appearance Manger
and other UI-enhancing products.
・ Support for subfolders within the main desktop pictures folder.
・ Support for GIF and MacPaint images.
・ The ability to recognize and use position picture settings selected in the
Desktop Pictures control panel.
・ A new option to automatically close the Desktop Pictures control panel after
each change cycle.
Each of these new enhancements is explained in detail in メDesktop Gallery Docs.モ
Installation
Double-click the メInstall Desktop Galleryモ icon to install the documentation, the Register application, a program alias, and an installer log in a folder called, "Desktop Gallery ト" at a location you specify. The installer puts the Desktop Gallery application into the Control Panels folder of the startup disk (where it should stay...), and then installs the file "DTG Tone" in the Preferences folder of the startup disk.
Using Desktop Gallery
Using Desktop Gallery is fairly straightforward, but there are couple of things of which you should be aware. First, Desktop Gallery uses the Desktop Pictures control panel to perform picture changes, so you will see Desktop Pictures open in the background during the first picture change cycle. Desktop Gallery will hide Desktop Pictures as soon as possible, so you can forget itユs there (but you should leave it open and hidden in the background). The other item we would like to mention is that if you need a set of sample pictures to use with Desktop Gallery, youユll find a folder called メSample Desktop Picturesモ in the Apple Extras folder installed with MacOS 8. See メDesktop Gallery Docsモ for more details.
Price
Desktop Gallery is shareware. Try it for free for 30 days, and if you decide to keep it then use the Kagi Registration program to pay the $15 license fee. In return, youユll receive a unique registration code that will disable the shareware registration reminders and also entitles you to free technical support, upgrades of version 1.0, and the opportunity to select a charity that will receive 10% of the profit from your registration.
How to Register
Registering and paying for Desktop Gallery is fairly simple since Kagi Shareware handles the payment processing. Open the Register program that accompanies Desktop Gallery. Enter your name exactly as you entered it in Desktop Galleryユs personalization dialog, your e-mail address, and the number of single user licenses you want (your unique registration code will be based on your name as entered in the Register program, so it should exactly match what you entered to personalize Desktop Gallery). Save or Copy or Print the data from the Register program and send the data and payment to Kagi.
If paying with Credit Card or First Virtual, you can email or fax the data to Kagi. Their e-mail address is <sales@kagi.com> and their fax number is +1 510 652-6589. You can either Copy the data from Register and paste it into the body of an e-mail message or you can Save the data to a file and then attach that file to an e-mail message. There is no need to compress the data file, it's already small. If you have a fax modem, just Print the data to the Kagi fax number: +1 510 652-6589.
Payments sent via e-mail are processed within 3 to 4 days. You will receive an e-mail acknowledgement from Kagi when it is processed. Payments sent via fax take up to 10 days and if you provide a correct internet e-mail address you will receive an e-mail acknowledgement.
If you are paying with Cash or USD Check you should print the data using the Register application and send it to the address shown on the form, which is:
Kagi

Berkeley, California 94709-1405

Once Kagi has received and processed your payment, you will receive your unique registration code from Digital Native via e-mail if you provide an e-mail address, or via postal mail if thatユs all the contact information you provide. Your registration code is based upon the name you enter in the Register program, so be sure that it matches exactly what you used to personalize Desktop Gallery! (You can also avoid potential confusion by not entering extra spaces or other invisible characters when your personalize the program.)
